Parks

Crowder Park

Crowder Park was established in 1977. Carl and Marie Crowder, who owned a local insurance agency and were life long residents of Bethany, donated land fore the Park. The Marrowbone Township Park District's Board of Trustees manages Crowder Park. The Park consists of approximately 70 acres and includes three pavilions, a playground area, two ball diamonds, tennis courts, a bike trail, restroom facilities and a newly added skate park. Many activities are scheduled at the Park such as the annual Bethany Celebration, family and class reunions, and baseball and softball leagues. Reservations are suggested for the pavilions and can be made by calling Karen Miller at 217-665-3351.

Parkview Addition

Developers of the addition are Paul Snyder and Robert Snyder. Parkview is complete with city water, sewer, natural gas and electricity. Okaw Valley Schools are just minutes away, along with Lake Shelbyville and Lake Decatur. The Addition is directly across from Crowder Park with playground facilities, ball diamonds, walking trails, picnic areas and a
skate park.

Harlin Park

A private donation of land established this wonderful park which is ready for enjoyment. A grant from the Illinois Department of Conservation provided for a walking bridge, wood chips for paths, and bird feeding stations.

 

 

Community Vision Statement:

Bethany is a rural town of approximately 1300 people with a strong past
and a promising future. Our plan for moderate economic growth is
designed to provide an increased tax base that will fund our schools and
village well into the 21st century.

Bethany is centered with some of the richest farmland in the world, and
has a strong agricultural base. With our proximity to Lake Shelbyville
and larger communities, both recreation and employment are short
commute. We are proud of our excellent schools, parks, and library and
community events. In addition, our numerous civic organizations provide
for residents of all ages to truly become involved in their community.

The residents of Bethany believe in continuing to provide a safe
community, strong schools and opportunities for the benefit of all the
residents. We welcome families to join us in enjoying the atmosphere and
friendliness of a small town.
