Uncle J. C. was the last of the living Whitten sibling of his generation. There are no Hatcher siblings living of that same generation. The Hatcher sisters are the oldest living generation of our Hatcher clan stemming from Ebanezer C. Hatcher and we have been since 1965 when the last child of Darling Green Hatcher died. We are proud to be the only living "first generation" grandchildren of Darling Green Hatcher, Civil War soldier. All the Whitten grandchildren loved Uncle J. C. and Aunt Lillian and they have been such a blessing to all the cousins. Uncle J. C. had been an avid fisherman and hunter over those many years and he continued those activities after amputation of his left arm from his elbow to his hand, battling cancer. He was strong even in his elder years. His mind remained sharp on both yesterday's and today's events. He was not only interesting to visit with, but he had such a good sense of humor. He had always been our "little stinker" uncle, teasing us and giving us a hard time. We loved him dearly. We know he loved us.

Personal thanks to Whitten cousins who have aided our research:
Virginia Wood Alexander, my first researcher contact, who started me off with her "then limited" information on Littleton and Lucinda Whitten in 1975. I was thrilled to be one of those first 100 "required buyers" to attain her book, Whitten and Allied Families. She is a forerunner in digging up many of the Whitten family lines.
Gena Neely and her brother, Frank Neely who continued to live on the Coweta Co., GA property left by their ancestor grandparents, John Hubbard and Rebecca Phillip Whitten Neely. Gena, Frank and his wife, Kathryn will always be loving, generous and kind "jewels" to us. How thankful we are to have found them, visited with them, and claimed them for our own. What a joy to see the large dinner bell still hanging in the tree, and appeared to beacon the workers to come home.
Martha Carter Braziel and her book, Whitten from Philip 1776-1858 to You, married to Ernest, our Whitten cousin, who willingly shared her information with us on the Ruark allied line.
Elizabeth Whitten Willis, family information, copies of original letters and documents. Elizabeth will always be another "jewel" and comes from Joel Whitten's family line. She willingly shared information by phone and letter, and a great dear lady to have known.
Gene and Toni Baker Brahier shared family information. Gene is our cousin thru William Lorenzo Augustus Whitten.
Virginia Whitten Smith, Etmer Whitten Phillips, Elmer Whitten, sisters Lula Smith Gregory and Lilly Smith Reeves, the entire John Quincey Adams family (Sue, Mary, John, Ann, Wayne, Hayward, Nona, Mike, Teddy and Linda), Rose Whitten Griffis, Gloria Whitten Jones, and their families, who continually shared their information, time, homes and love to us over many years of travel and research. They are dear to our hearts.
Special thanks to our ancestor cousin, Silas Reagan Whitten. All research seemed to follow one path back to this man, who kept up with Whitten families everywhere he went. It's not known if this was by choice or accident, but it would appear to be by choice, since he found family in various places. For Lameda and I, he is our 1800's predecessor of knowing family information and visiting family. There are many others who have provided their family information and too numerous to count. We know them all and have contact with them all, and appreciate all the help.
