The Bordello Tour

Guided tours on the half hour, $5.00 per person.
Hours: Mon. - Sat. 9:30 am - 6:30 pm, Sun. 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

When the final occupants of the Oasis Rooms left in January 1988 (the last recorded date in the “hotel” registry), they seemed to have left in a hurry. Clothing, makeup, toiletries, food and personal items were all left behind.

The Madam's Dressing Table - as she left it

A tour of the upper rooms explains the mystery of the ladies’ hasty departure, and answers many other pressing questions, as well. For example, why so many gentlemen could at one time be found wandering the streets of Wallace with only one shoe!

Even the dirty dishes were left
in the kitchen sink!

This accurate and tastefully-presented tour has been praised by everyone from former bordello clients to a Southern Baptist church group. Proprietress Michelle Mayfield shares information gleaned from the ladies’ hairdressers, local policemen, the establishment’s former bouncers and maids, and even the ladies themselves. It’s a 20-minute glimpse into the past, with details that range from poignant to hilarious.

Although the guided tour through the second floor brothel is the main attraction, the tour covers several other displays of interest, including a still and an old wine press in the basement.

A certificate of “no-share” of ownership in the establishment is yours to keep for the price of admission.

Can you guess why the Oasis went through
so many kitchen timers?

The Oasis Shop

Entry to the Oasis gift shop on the main floor is free. The shop offers literature on women of the west, mementos from the Oasis’s days of operation, and lingerie from thong panties to flannel nightgowns. The Robert Thomas Murals adorn the shop walls. Feel free to stop in, browse, and enjoy the ambiance.

The Robert Thomas Murals

Mining has been the lifeblood of Wallace up until the present. To commemorate that important aspect of the Oasis’ past, artist Robert Thomas was enlisted to paint murals on the walls of the former saloon area of the building (now the gift shop). The scenes depict the realities of mining in an earlier era.

Thomas is widely recognized for his western landscapes and wildlife art. His work is included in many private and corporate collections.
