Frederic Chopin Chopin is another of the great composers. Everything he wrote was for the piano or for the piano with other instruments. He wrote many short pieces including dances such as polonaises, waltzes, and mazurkas. He also wrote pieces called nocturnes, ballades and etudes. Frederic Chopin was born on March 1, 1810, in the village of Zelazowa Wola, near Warsaw, Poland. His father was a Frenchman who had lived in Poland for many years. His Polish mother was of noble birth. Chopin loved piano music from the time he was a child. He began to take piano lessons when he was 6 years old and started to compose music even before he knew how to write his ideas down. At the age of 8 he performed in his first concert. After visiting Paris later in life, Chopin decided that he loved the city so much that he lived there for the rest of his life. He taught piano lessons, performed in concerts and sold his compositions to publishers who paid him well. Calculate Chopin's income (click here). Chopin died of tuberculosis on Oct. 17, 1849, at age 39.
