WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is often considered the greatest musical genius of all time.

Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria. His father, Leopold Mozart, was a composer and violinist and worked for the archbishop. Mozart began performing music throughout Europe when he was very young - sometimes for a thousand people. His older sister, Maria Anna was also a famous musician when she was young. They both performed on the piano, harpsichord and violin.

Mozart lived at the same time as America's Revolutionary War, and loved to travel. Once when he was visiting Paris, he heard children singing a song in the street. Mozart liked this song so much he went home and it song down. He then wrote a set of variations on it. You sing this song today with the words "Twinkle, twinkle, little star!"

He was unable to complete his final work, his Requiem, because he got very sick and died in Vienna on December 5, 1791. He was buried in a mass grave.

DID YOU KNOW? that Mozart's favorite subject was mathematics? When he wrote a letter to one of his friends, he signed his name and also wrote "friend of the league of numbers." Once when he was on a concert tour in Europe, he forgot his math book at home, and wrote a letter to his mother asking her to send his book to him as soon as possible.
