This is in memory of Michael
Lee Williams, my partner and soul mate for the last thirty years. Michael liked Steve
Winwood, so I thought 'Higher Love' was appropriate.... Sunday April 8th, Michael collapsed
at work and was taken to the emergency room with pneumonia. He was given antibiotics via
an IV and prescribed some. We never suspected his liver was affected. He had hepatitus back
in 1977 and was told it could return if he got run down. The following Monday night,
April 16th, I took him back to the emergency room and they admitted him because of his liver
problems. We spent the rest of the week at the hospital and they released him Friday,
April 20th. Monday, April 30th was his appointment with his liver specialist but he worsened over
the weekend. We had no idea of how serious his situation was as everyone seemed optimistic.
Sunday April 29, I took him back to the emergency room and was given the bad news.
I spent the night holding his hand...our last moments together.
I kept a smile on my face as best I could and never cried until after he took is last breath.
His last memories of me were not going to be tears. However hard it was I was determined
that he was going to remember me with a smile on my face. I kept telling him he was leaving
the hospital with me and know he has. He is in my heart and my guardian angel.
It was explained to me that life support would have only prolonged the inevitable.
I am grateful for our time together. Michael never wanted a funeral...no preachers preaching
or saving anyone. He believed god is in your heart-not the church. Churches always seemed
too judgemental to both of us. He may not have gotten the memorial service he wanted but I
am relieved that his wish of our ashes being spread through a garden will be possible now. We
wanted it to be one we worked together, but I at least know what plants he liked and how he
grouped them together. Michael was 54...January 9, 1953 to April 30, 2007 at 7:10am. There
are two songs of "Higher Love" and the second one is the extended version. |
